The UK based insurance company called Churchill Insurance was founded by Martin Long in 1989 and is one of the first major insurance companies to have direct vehicle insurance in the United Kingdom. At first, the Churchill company started off with offering car insurance.
One of its first employees Henry Engelhardt founded the Admiral Insurance two years later in 1991. The company, after its inception, has tried to acquire an identity that does not associate with the great man whose name the company bears, Winston Churchill. The result was the creation, in 1994, of the famous Churchill bull dog mascot for the company.
To make it convenient for policy seekers, the website of the company offers a checklist that helps choose the right kind of auto coverage. As the items in the checklist would also be included in the main insurance contract, it makes sense to have the details ready to be furnished. The company makes a few basic assumptions too, based on which the policy is offered.
Here is a listing of these assumptions
- The minimum age for policy holders is 17 and the maximum is 80 years and they hold a authentic EU driving license.
- There are separate quotes for persons above 80.
- The total claims made is in the past three years should not be more than 2.
- Penalties, convictions or disqualification, again should not exceed 2 in number, for the past 5 years.
- The vehicle is owned by the insurer or someone in his family like the spouse, business partner and so on.
- Annual mileage is restricted to 25000
- The NCD (No Claims Discount) has been provided by a an insurance provider of an EU country.
- The coverage is opted for with an automatic assumption that the policy will be renewed again the next year, unless the insurer wishes otherwise
The bull dog, Lucas, was the live dog that represented the mascot from 1994 until the Nodding Dog came into the picture in 1996. The computer animated mascot was soon accepted and recognized as the ambassador of the company. The mascot has now become so popular that one can buy similar models from the Churchill insurance website.
