How Long Does a DUI Stay on my Record

According to California Vehicle Code sections 23140, 23152 and 23153, DUI violation will remain in your driving record for 10 years.   This 10 year reporting period on driving record applies to all non-commercial drivers even if they maintain a clean driving record with no tickets or violations following the DUI.  If your DUI violation is more than 10 years old it will not appear on your driving record. The DUI will be removed from your driving record after the completion of 10 years from the date of the DUI.

Some states have laws that require that DUI should be kept on your driving record for a certain number of years. Many other states laws do not have such a provision and the DUI stays on your driving record forever.

So it is important to know what is on your driving record. You should visit the DMV office and request a copy of your driving record by paying a fee. On filling out a short form with proof of identification you will receive a copy of your driving record the same day.
