Personal Injury Insurance Claim

Insurance policies have different types of coverage and the premiums depend on the types you choose and the extent of coverage. Body Injury Liability, Personal Injury Protection, Collision Coverage, Comprehensive Coverage and Liability for Property Damage covers are provided under auto insurance policies. During traffic accidents, you may suffer minor or major injuries that might cause huge expenditure on treatment. An accident could result due to negligence or other reasons.

How Personal injury policy claim is evaluated
Many a time, the process for personal injury insurance claim takes a long time due to insufficient evidence or proof. There are many procedures that need to be followed in order to process insurance claim and the most important of them is evaluating personal injury insurance claim. Some injuries do not show immediately and the accident related health problems show up later. Only proper medical proof of these facts can help to evaluate the actual compensation for such claims.
Four special categories for evaluation
There are four special categories that should be evaluated in case of personal injury insurance claim. They are temporary partial disability, temporary total disability, permanent partial disability and permanent total disability.

In case of temporary total disability, the person is seriously injured or completely impaired and temporarily hospitalized. In temporary partial disability, the victim recovers and is able to resume some of his activities in due course of time. Permanent total disability is a state where the injury creates total impairment to the body and the disability has hampered his normal activities. Permanent partial disability is where the injured person retains some body function.

Factors for evaluating personal injury insurance claim
When evaluating a personal injury insurance claim, a number of factors are taken in to consideration by the insurance company. The most important factor is liability and for this, you should be able to prove that injuries were due to the fault of the other party. The driver would have been drunk or had not followed proper traffic rules or laws. After liability, the other factor is to determine the nature of injuries. The next is the type of medical treatment as well as the expenses involved.
Personal injury insurance claims are easily evaluated when there is sufficient evidence. Evidence can be in the form of medical reports which would clearly state the nature of injury. In case there are witnesses, they can also give a written statement and the same can be furnished to the police.
Insurance companies have their own adjusters. The role of adjusters is to evaluate injury claims and try to minimize the amount payable by the insurance company to the claimant or injured people. It is important to ensure that you are compensated fairly by your insurance company. In such cases it is better to have an accident attorney or personal injury lawyer to fight your case in order to get the best compensation amount.
