The insurance sometimes depends on the size of the vehicle, cost of the vehicle, etc. In the event of claiming the auto insurance, one must be aware of the benefits, policies and the coverage of the insurance.

The following are some of the verbiage used while dealing with auto insurance.
  • Bodily Injury
Bodily injury can also be called liability or accountability. This compensates the costs of the assets damage and bodily harm caused to the opposite party in the accident if it is our fault. The Insurance companies agree before hand in the amount of the damage or the costs involved which they cover and the number of accidents that they cover. The policy clearly states these terms and conditions agreed upon by the customer and the company. If the limit or the cost of coverage is high, so will be the premium. It depends on the coverage offered by the company.
  • Collision
This collision part of the policy can be claimed if you are involved in an accident. It would cover the medical expenses and would also cover the property damage involved according to the terms and conditions agreed upon in the policy.
  • Comprehensive
This part of the policy covers the property damages caused due to theft, vandalism, etc. that is say if your car is broken into by smashing your car window, you can avail the benefit of collision to cover the damage. You also have to keep in mind about higher premiums. They have a higher payout. In case you are worried about the cost, increase the deductible. That would decrease the premium. The deductible is the amount you pay towards the damage before your insurance company compensates you towards the accident.
  • Uninsured or and Under Insured motorist
Even though the auto insurance is mandatory, some people do not fulfill this requirement. They are not insured. In case you are involved in an accident with one such person, then this policy would cover the medical expenses up to some extent. Auto insurances are generally costly. But, this is something which one cannot do without. Some states even arrest and impose fines on the uninsured or Underinsured drivers. Not having auto insurance can become a financial burden at the time of need.
So at the time of selecting the auto insurance, you should carefully go through what coverage are being offered and what suits your needs better. You should also carefully research and choose the company that is accessible, financially stable and has a good track record so that you get the required help in case of emergency.
