Discounts for Senior Auto Insurance

A peep into the trends reflected by the motor accident history reveal the fact that the highest rates of fatal daytime accidents have been shown by the drivers who are aged around 75 years and older.

It is a known fact that the senior drivers who have been the victim of the accidents were unaware of the decline in their driving skills as their age advances until and unless an accident occurs. This brings things into a new perspective. An accident convinces the fact that with the driving skill of people aged 75 and above being impaired as the age progresses, they must be stopped from taking the cars on the road. Under typical circumstances, these aged people reveal reluctance to give their independence until they get involved in the road accidents while driving.
With the road mishaps from their side showing a steep climb, these senior drivers have to stay proactively involved in keeping their driving skills sharper as days pass by.

This is one of the reasons why many states in the country insist on the aged drivers to take a drivers’ safety course after they cross a certain age. Clearing these tests can go a long way in pulling down the cost of insurance, with the auto insurance companies willing to extend them with a better discount if proven to be still proficient in their driving skills. Many auto insurance companies typically raise the insurance premium after you cross the ages 50-55.

The American Association of the Retired Persons (AARP) and the Intermountain Healthcare have joined forces and taken up the initiative to extend to the U.S. citizens aged 50 and older two four-hour classes on safe driving. The clearance of these classes successfully by the senior citizens will make them eligible for higher rates of discounts on their auto insurance. These classes are designed to bring older drivers abreast of the changes that have been incorporated in the new traffic laws, rules of the road and defensive driving techniques. Anyone who attends these training classes is fit to obtain a certificate that does not demand these senior drivers to take up a test and graduate it for certification.

AARP offers some great Senior Auto Insurance benefits to the aged drivers. These benefits take the shape of a new car replacement guarantee, a warranty for lifetime repair, lifetime ability to renew their policy, a fast and hassle-free claim payments and an online customer service center for claim reporting, bill payments and more to enhance the convenience to the senior drivers.

The American Association for the Retired Persons has also come up with the 55 ALIVE, mature driving courses through the local AARP chapters. Today many of the auto insurance companies have expressed their interest in offering subscriber discounts to these senior drivers provided they can offer them a proof of course completion. Before enrolling, check out the eligibility rules of your auto insurance provider as these discounts are not provided by every auto insurance carrier.
