Factors That Affect Your Car Insurance Premium

Your auto insurance premium depends on various factors as you are well-aware of. The questionnaire you filled in while you are at the insurance company has a lot of riding on it. The answers are not for their leisure reading, but are factors that eventually decide your auto insurance amount. The answers will determine whether you are a high risk persona or not. If you are deemed to be high risk you are likely to pay more for your coverage. So what are these factors? There are, however, some factors that you cannot change which will affect your car insurance rates.

Age is a factor that has a rot of importance riding on it. If you are under twenty-five you are a greater risk, as the chance of you being in an accident are higher. Older people are a lower risk and hence their insurance premium rates are likely to be lower. It is said that drivers between the ages of fifty and sixty-five are said to possess the safest driving records. Also, in the case of insurance premium’s it bodes well to be a woman. Statistically it is said that women tend to be safer drivers than men. These are factors that you cannot change which will, however, affect your auto insurance rates.

There are, however, a few factors that you can change that affect your auto insurance rates, like for example, your martial status. For a similar driving record, a married man will pay lesser insurance premium than a single man. And in this case, where you live also counts. If you live in a congested and traffic laden city you are likely to pay more auto insurance, than a person living in a traffic free town. More traffic literally translates as a higher chance of an accident. People living in areas of high crime rate where vehicle thefts happen frequently are also liable to a higher insurance amounts than people living in safer neighbourhoods.

Your driving record is your Bible. People with clean driving records are perceived as safer bets and pay lesser insurance rates as a result. People with colourful driving records tend to churn out more money for insurance premiums. There is however, a saving grace that as your driving record improves your premium is also reduces. There are a few obvious factors as well like your car model. A cheaper car calls for lesser insurance premiums than the swanky machines. Having no credit history or even a poor one makes you a higher risk and hence you are penalised with a higher premium.

And finally we have occupation. Your occupation and the use of your car in that occupation are important factors while considering your insurance premium. If your kind of job is one where you sit at your desk all day, you might be paying less when compared to a person with a job that requires them to travel a lot, even if it within the city limits itself.

Keeping these factors in mind, look around various insurance companies to get the best possible deal for your vehicle. Be smart and get yourself the lowest possible premium quote.
