It is a well-known fact that the men usually pay more for car insurance than women drivers. So, the question is, why do women enjoy great discounts from the auto insurance companies whereas the men don’t? Well, the answer is simple. Statistics reveal that male drivers have caused more accidents on the road than the female drivers. Love for the speed, not wearing the seat belts, their passion to drive, reckless driving and even Driving Under the Influence or the DUIs can be pointed as the causes for higher insurance rates in men than in women.
Male drivers feel that the auto insurance companies are truly biased with the female drivers, which encourage them to present the female drivers with more discounts. When a comparison is conducted on men and women falling under the age group of16 to 25, it can be observed that the male drivers have to pay more for car insurance even when they are driving the same car, for the same amount of coverage. The reason is obvious – statistics.
On closer observation, we can see that the male drivers take the car more frequently than their female counterparts. Mostly it can be the men taking the women for dates. Women usually do not have the habit of picking up their dates from their homes. Also, the teenage daredevil driving actions or the reckless driving is more in the men.
The fun they receive from these reckless behavior places them in a high risk category as it enhances the probability for accidents. Every accident means more number of claims with the auto insurance company that eats a huge portion of the earnings of the insurance company. To make good the loss, the insurance companies charge more on male drivers than the female drivers.
The statistics also reveal the fact that men take longer time frame than women to learn driving. Can this longer learning curve be on account of the lack of attention they offer unlike the female drivers?
But, the rates do not always accelerate as one ages. When a male driver turns twenty five years of age, his insurance rates go down. The experience he gains with the constant driving can help to pull down the costs of insurance. With the better maturity levels they can strive to push the insurance rates lower.
The insurance costs levied from the married men are also lower as the statistics reveal that the married men tend to remain ‘calmer’ and more mature than the unmarried male population. Marriage is known to force them to drive carefully.
However, a fact that remains to be noted is that today the number of female drivers is more than what it was forty years ago. So, there can be a probability that woman might catch up with the male drivers in the statistics of accidents. But, it is still a far-away chance and let us see whether the auto insurance companies might be forced to bring about modifications to their pricing policies with the possible changes in statistics.
