Savings on Teen Car Insurance

Teenagers eagerly wait for the age of sixteen when they can take the car on to the road. But, this is a phase that creates a nightmare in the minds of the parents. On one hand, it is the fear of the reckless behavior and the love for speed in the minds of the teenagers. On the other side, it is the dark cloud looming over their heads in the name of auto insurance for teenagers. The auto insurance companies recognize the threat posed by the teenage drivers with their love for the fast machines that can tempt them to drive these cars at an amazing speed. With the statistics revealing the rise in the number of accidents on account of the immature behavior displayed by the teenage drivers, they tend to raise the premium for the auto insurance for the teenagers. From the part of the parent, he can take a few measures that can help in pulling down the insurance cost to some extent. One major element that influences the price of insurance is the type of car driven by the teenage driver.

The type of car driven by the teenage driver has a great voice in the determination of the premium payable. Also, a parent has to ensure that the teen is driving a car that enjoys maximum safety features that can compensate for their inexperience. Some of these features are built-in, whereas others are additions that differ with the needs expressed by the owner of the car. A parent has to ensure that the car has the following features to make it fall under a lower risk category list of the auto insurance companies.

Discourage an inexperienced teenage driver from starting off with a sporty, high performance car. These cars will be charged at a higher premium by the insurance companies. The teenage driver will be tempted to drive recklessly and thereby increase the probability for motor accidents while driving a sports car.

Go for a car that boasts of safety features like front and side-impact air bags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) and good crash test performance. These features can shield the teenage driver and the co-passengers from serious injury in the event of an accident. With the probability for damages and injury pulled down, the auto insurance companies will be willing to extend the insurance at lower rates to the teenagers.

Encourage your teenage driver to start driving on an older, but safer car. However, always keep in mind that an older car, even though offers lower insurance cost, may not always hold superior safety features. So, never compromise on your child’s safety while going for an older car.
A larger car is always safer for a young driver than a smaller vehicle. However, an SUV is considered a higher risk vehicle as they are easier to roll.
